Can Home Repairs Break Gender Stereotypes?

Home plumbing and electrical repairs don't have to be handled exclusively by male technicians! Taichung City Government's Gender-Friendly Business Program has entered its fifth year. As of October 28, 2026, 320 businesses had joined the initiative, which expanded this year to include plumbing and electrical repair services as well as sports and fitness businesses for the first time.

The program focuses on three areas: gender inclusivity, menstrual friendliness, and accessible, welcoming spaces. Participating industries have gradually expanded from restaurants and beauty services to healthcare, property management, and other sectors. According to the Taichung City Government, Senyu Mechanical and Electrical provides in-home plumbing and electrical services performed by female technicians, giving residents another option for household repairs.

According to Taichung City's Social Affairs Bureau, some female customers have reported feeling more comfortable and at ease when female plumbing and electrical technicians provide services inside their homes. Beyond home repairs, participating fitness businesses also offer women-only spaces, along with classes and equipment tailored to the needs of older adults.

Regardless of who's doing the work, home repairs require the right tools. The Gerber Center-Drive EDC 14-in-1 Multi-Tool is suitable for everyday repair tasks at a workbench, such as tightening screws. It makes tool preparation more convenient and offers a practical option for people who enjoy maintaining and organizing their homes themselves.
